African American Music History pt . 9 Internet Vol – 9 Satchmo

Since  the  1920’s  Louis  Armstrong’s  music  has  been  apart  of  Americas African  American  Music  History .  His  trumpet  has  been  heard  in  many  parts  of  the  world  including  Africa . 

History  notes  that  in  1922  Louis Armstrong  took  the  Mississippi  northward  to  Chicago  to  join  his  trumpet  mentor  King  Oliver  who during  that  time  was  playing  at the  Royal  Palm  Gardens.

Sometime  after  that  he  went  to  work  with  Fletcher   Henderson’s  orchestra  in  New  York  .  History  records  that  in  1925  Armstrong  returned  to  Chicago  and  latter  joined  Erskine  Tate’s  orchestra  at  a  place  called   the  Old  Vendome  Theater  .  Sometime  during  those  years  Armstrong  was  proclaimed  the  World’s  Greatest  Trumpeter  .

After   playing  along  with  different  artist  Armstrong  organized  his  own  group  called  Louis  Armstrong  and  His  Hot  Five  .  History  notes  that  Armstrong  played  a  series  of  engagements  that  took  night  clubs  and  after  hour  places  by  storm  .  Not  much  was noted  for  a  length  of  time  until   research  footnotes  kept  by  a  African  American  Music  History  buff  indicate  that   Armstrong  returned  to  New  York  to  a  place  called  Connie’s  Inn  . 

History  records  that  Louis  Armstrong  left  Connie’s  Inn  and  became  a  star  of  the  Musical  Hot  Chocolates  where  he  first  introduced  ”  Ain’t  Misbehaving .  ”  In  1933  Louis  Armstrong  made  his  first  trip  abroad  and  toured  France ,  Italy ,  Switzerland,  Norway ,  Holland ,  and  England .  There  he  played  several  command  performances  for  King  George  VI .

When  Armstrong  returned  from  Europe  in  1936  he  made  his  motion  picture  debut  in  Pennies   from  Heaven .  A  few  years  after  that  he  appeared  in  Everyday’s  a  Holiday ,  Going  Places ,  and  Cabin  in  the  Sky .  His  recording  career  dates  back   from  the  middle  twenties ,  and  many  of  his  records  are  collector  items .
